What is the cancellation policy?

We operate a 24 hour no refund cancellation policy for group surf lessons and a 48 hour policy for camps, packages, events and private sessions. We have a strict ratio for students to instructors and our instructors are booked in advance. If you have agreed to pay on the day and subsequently cancel, please honour our cancellation policy.

Are there hot showers, bag storage and changing rooms?

Yes we have lots of hot showers, changing rooms and bag storage included.

Where do we meet?

Strandhill: Rebelle Surf HQ is in the new National Surf Centre Strandhill at the seafront. Maps are provided below. There is ample parking in the large carpark on the way in, including coach parking. Seafront parking is limited.

Streedagh: Meeting point is in the main carpark facing beach (in winter only).

When should I arrive?

Make sure you get to us 15 minutes before the lesson starts. We need to get you wetsuits and boots and you need time to change. If you are in a group lesson please be on time as others will be kept waiting and we want you to have as much
surfing time as possible.

What is provided?

Wetsuits, Boots, Hoods, Gloves, Surfboards.

What do I need to bring?

Swimwear, Towel, Sunscreen, Cash for payment if not prepaid.

How long are the lessons?

The whole surf experience is 2.5 hours including changing and getting to and from the beach. You will be in the water for approximately 90 minutes. There will be beach instruction before your lesson for around 15-20 minutes.

What is the kid’s age limit?

We take kids from 6 years upwards as long as the can swim. Children under 18 need to be signed in by a parent or guardian.
All our instructors are qualified ISA Surf Instructors and Lifeguards, Garda vetted and Child protection certified.

I’ve had loads of lessons before, do I have to listen to the whole lesson again?

No, tell your instructor that you want to skip the lesson and have more personalised instruction after the main group talk.
You you do have to listen to the safety brief.

Do I need to be able to swim?

Yes you need to be able to swim to a basic level.

Will I be out in deep water?

No. You will be in waist depth white water in a beginner group lesson. In a more advanced group you can go into deeper water.

Do I need to be really fit?

No. Start with where you are at and we will meet you there. Surfing is a fitness you build up over time.

Can I bring my own wetsuit and board?

Yes to the wetsuit if its long sleeve and at least 4mm and yes to the board as long as it is a foam board. No hard boards unless you are in a Level 2 outback session.

How many instructors and how many other surfers?

We have 1:8 ratio instructor to surfers. Often our groups are smaller as we like to keep groups to a nice teaching size for a better experience. We teach in pods of 8 people unless you are a big group of friends that want to be in the same group.

What if there are no waves or it’s too big?

If the waves are unsuitable and too big in Strandhill we relocate to Streedagh beach as a backup or cancel.
If there are no waves, we cancel.

Are there jellyfishes, dolphins or sharks?

No to sharks, yes to dolphins and occasionally in summer yes to jellyfish. The good news is that you are in thick wetsuits, and we can give you gloves and a hood if you’re a bit squeamish about sea life!

It doesn’t get better than Melanie, Michael and the rest of the team. A great balance of safety and freedom to get on with it for all levels. Top notch for kids. Can’t recommend enough.

This is the best surf camp in Sligo. Both my kids have done the camp for many summers. Melanie, Michael and the team are exceptional. They are magic with the kids and the same staff each year indicates how happy the instructors are there.

This was our second year taking surf lessons with Rebelle Surf School and I cannot recommend them enough!! We could see they really enjoy their job and gave their all when teaching us. They wouldn’t let us give up until we caught a great wave . We will definitely be back next year and can’t wait!
